Here’s what’s on our headphones.

  • Kamasi Washington, A Tribe Called Quest, NPR. I have a really random taste in music, I jump around a lot so I don't really know why I like certain songs, it is usually because of the rhythm and the way that it sounds.

  • CASE STUDY 01 by Daniel Caesar and As It Was by Harry Styles. Daniel Caesar is a classic and this music is perfect to have in the background of any activity. It is almost a nostalgic feeling that reminds me how soon graduation is. And I am not a huge Harry Styles fan, but I really like his new song. It's one of those that feels like a Christmas song without actually being one.

  • 16- Baby Keem. I really like his music, and I went to his concert last week and have been listening to a lot since.

  • Supertf. Hes funny and he plays videogames

  • I Wish Grandpas Never Die by Riley Green. I like the lyrics and the tune.

  • I Love Kanye- Kanye. I love all of Kanye’s music, this one in specific is just his voice, no music or anything, just him talking about himself with rhythm.

  • Justin Bieber. Love yourself. Good song about how sometimes you just need to move on.

  • 4:44 by Jay Z. I like the beat, and the start of the song

  • I See You In My Dreams-Hans Zimmer Dune Sketchbook. After Dune won Oscar for Best Soundtrack, I'm listening to the Dune Album, and I like it. Very atmospheric, dune-ish in nature, I like it. Very long.

  • Classic rock. I like it because of the way it builds the adrenaline in me.

  • dream evil, immortal#1. It was in a video game that I frequently played when I was younger

  • NPR. Generally non-biased and credible.

  • Drive Slow-Kanye West. It’s cold

  • Throwback R&B. I like it because it’s gets me in a calm comfortable place and it just amazing to listen to.

  • Baby Keem. I like his music

  • Mostly country with a emphasis on on a artist I recently discovered, Charley Crockett. I recently discovered him and I like his music becuase it's a mix of outlaw country and rock.

  • Isaiah RashadIt is an artist I like and his music is relaxing.

  • track maker. It's cute and cheerful

  • Pharrell Williams, Kid Cudi, Bad Bunny, Faye Webster, Joji, Vince Staples, Earl Sweatshirt, Mac Miller, Rauw Alejandro, etc. I like it because it’s different genres, and they all have different music styles.

  • Heart of the Sunrise - Yes. Excellent classic rock song. Good lyrics and awesome guitar solo. Most importantly, it's 11 minutes long, and not a single second of that is boring or wasted.

  • Travis Scott. Travis Scott is a very versatile and well-rounded artist.

  • Video game music. Video game music can come in many varieties and sounds great.

  • all falls down- Kanye West. Fire song

  • Wesley's Theory. Various styles and artists, a beautiful sample

Album review by Leisandra De Vaca

The album Kids See Ghosts, released in June of 2018 by Hip Hop duo Kids See Ghosts, a collaboration of rappers Kanye West and Kid Cudi. Kids See Ghosts was the second of five albums released as part of Kanye’s “Wyoming Sessions”. This album was the only album released by Kids See Ghosts, although Kanye had mentioned to Kid Cudi back in September of 2019 that he was planning on working on and releasing a second album.

Kids See Ghosts consists of seven tracks, each exploring a different theme from religion, acceptance, and mental illness. Both artists are not ones to shy away from experimenting, which we witness in this album. The songs in this album are a mix of hip-hop and rock, with a heavy use of guitar and key samples – giving it a ‘70s psychedelic feel.

Kanye manages to come off manic and out of control, and Cudi seeming out to be forlorn and drained. Both portraying the kind of mental and emotional problems they’re known for into their music.

This album was seen more as a ‘quality over quantity’ as Kids See Ghosts sold over 142,000 units in its first week. I ranked each Kids See Ghosts track from our lowest to top pick:

7. Fire- This song was and odd mix of a drum and guitar loop at the beginning along with humming and a tambourine beat. This tabourine beat is actually a sample from Napoleon XIV’s ‘They’re Coming To Take Me Away, Ha Haaa!’ . Yet this song is one of the few in which does not include sampled vocals or a feature. The message this song was portraying which was leaving things in the past, became repetative and could have been exicuted in a less repetative way.

6. Kids See Ghosts (feat. Yasiin Bey)- This song carries an eerie beat and gave a solid delivery which worked well with Kanye’s energy throughout the song. The hook is catchy to the ponit of becoming repetative and it seemed nothing out of the ordinary compared to the rest of the songs. Kanye managed to carry the overall energy of the song, while Cudi and Bey’s verses were monotone and drawn out. This song would have been better off as an into or outro song, yet was oddly placed giving it no replay value.

5. Feel The Love- This song contains a flashy and attention grabbing intro verse that overlaps with very somber chords. The snare in the song which was copied along with the vocals surprised many with Kanye’s vocal abilities right in the intro. Cudi’s vocals are distorted and fadingf into the background of the music itself. This song vocally differs from the other songs making it stand out, and with how short this song is. This song carries a chorus which can get repetative, although being catchy, can get bothersome and overplayed, affecting its replay value.

4. Cudi Montage- The fourth song on the album opens with a very raw guitar into. Cudi and Kanye had evenly distributed singing time which offers the ability to hear both of them throughout the entire song. This song in particular offered the more slowed down versions of Kanye and Cudi in this album which also added balance to the whole album in and of itself. Cudi Montage was a staple to the album because of the stability is added compared to the other tracks in this album. This album executed having a sog for any mood perfectly with this particular track. WIth its raw emotions by Cudi and Kanye, along with the lyrical leads  this song took into other albums which were to come from Cudi and Kanye.

3. 4th Dimension- Track number two was full of Cudi and Kanye’s lyrical talent and play on words. This song is lyric heavy, along with background vocal heay and either can get lost in the other. Kanye in particular is using his lyrical talent to his advantage along with his production talent which both shine through within this song. Kanye takes and turn this song into his own as if Cudi was just a feature, which is a product of his amazing production skills.

2. Freeee (Ghost Town Pt. 2)(feat. Ty Dolla $ign)- Freeee is a sequal to Kanye’s “Ghost Town”. This song includes a guitar sample and a simple beat that all flowed well. Kid Cudi and Kanye alternated between verses well and both gave life to thesong. Although it is a sequal, this song is still a stand alone song and delivers just as much on its own. This song is not one that can be played at any time, not for the wrong reasons though, only to preserve its replay value because of how high it is.

1. Reborn- The first track on the album which is also the song that most people know. This song can be played whenever and wherever. The brilliance of this song could have come earlier in the song in order to avoid being skipped. It is understandable that some people wanted the catchyness of this song to come earlier and impress from the beginning. Reborn is a Cudi heavy song where Kanye sounds very similar to Cudi. This song is known for its late-night drive type of vibe. meaning it can be played whenever, but shouldn’t in order to prevent it from becomg over played and eventually annoying.
